The Universe
After the Big Bang, energy began to form into mater. Some energy formed into conscious thought and became a thinking cloud, larger than any world, any star, any galaxy. A cloud as large as the newborn universe, and it expanded as the universe expanded.
It became self-aware. It realized that the other mater of the universe, still forming quasars and other early structures, were not sentient. So it named itself- Akasha.
Akasha realized that it was, and it was unique, and that meant it was alone. It desired companionship, so it decided to split itself into two. It was no longer alone, but it was hardly an improvement. The other self was identical to it, so it made for a poor companion. They made themselves change in opposite ways. One desired patterns and order, the other desired chaos. One desired construction, the other destruction. We will call these two beings the Powers.
They considered these new differences in points of view to be exciting, and they wished to test their concepts by seeing their dynamic play out with other beings. Instead of simply splitting and making more things that were equal to themselves, they decided to make smaller, inferior things, like themselves, but lesser. They made them as individuals, with individual personalities, and individual powers. These beings were the Gods. A God of fire, a God of oceans, a God of wind, a God of mountains; dozens of them.
The two Powers enjoyed great entertainment from those Gods, and their constant soap opera of romance and battles, but that was not enough. They did not want dozens of creatures, but millions, and not individual viewpoints, but just two camps; like the two views of their two creators. These beings were the Angels and the Demons. Those beings co-existed for a while, enjoying each other's differences like the two Powers did. The Powers found that boring. They wanted entertainment. They wanted conflict- that was the whole reason to create these inferiors in the first place. They separated the angels and demons into two separate domains, Heaven and Hell, so they interacted with each other only rarely. Each group became less knowledgeable of the other, creating fears about the differences. Those fears became hatred. They began to hate each other because of those fears. The Angels and Demons invented War. Since these creatures were powerful and immortal, the wars were endless.
When groups of Angels encountered groups of Demons, the result was always violent conflict. Oddly, it was completely different when one Angel encounters one Demon. In those rare interactions, they would be more curious about the other one- exploring a taboo. The Angels and Demons invented Sex, but this sex was purely for enjoyment- no reproduction was possible. The gods did not want the two groups to blend together. That would end the conflict, and end the entertainment.
The Powers did enjoy all the sex and violence for a while, but endless war and endless sex became boring. Anything involving endless creatures would eventually become boring. So, they decided the solution was to create creatures that ended. They created creatures far inferior to Angels and Demons, creatures limited and shaped by the physical mater of the universe. They made these so they would be diverse individuals- some more aligned with their angelic nature, some more aligned with the demonic. Most were neither. They made these creatures have limited life spans, and gave them the ability to make new creatures like themselves. They designed them so they would grow, change, explore, and evolve to best suit their habitat, and to change their habitat to best suit themselves. These creatures were the Faye, and later the Humans.
They placed these creatures on various worlds throughout the universe, and placed gods, angels and demons to watch over them, and guide them along the two different paths; and to teach the humans to hold the same prejudices against the other groups that they have. Life then played out in various ways on various worlds, creating many amusements for the two gods to explore.
One of those worlds is called Earth. The humans of Earth were looked over by a group of angels called the Grigori, and a group of demons called the Incubi, and a group of Gods called the Trionfi, also known as Titians or Tarot.
